Surprises

R's cousin (MB) from Canada has been planning what he called his surprise 50th birthday party. This struck me a strange thing to plan for one's self, but hey, whatever works.

MB had friends and family coming in from all over for this. So it was moved to his aunt's stake center. He had a musical program planned that seemed serious for a birthday party. He's not a member of the church, so we wondered if he knew that it was okay to have fun music played at church.

The dinner was nice, and we sang and had cake and heard some music by R's sisters. Then we were to head into another room where I'd been told there would be a surprise number by a friend of his who is in the Tabernacle choir.

When we entered the room, MB and the friend were both dressed all in white!

This was a surprise baptism!

No one in the family knew except the aunt who planned it.

The talk on baptism was given by the sister missionary who had first taught him 7 years ago, and it was her father who baptized MB. He will be confirmed back in his home ward in Calgary.

R had said a week ago, "what, is he announcing his baptism or something?" when he heard about the musical program, but he was kidding.

I'm still in shock.

What! Hilarious! And so awesome! And you did a good job telling it, because I was totally surprised. Is he the one we have met before?
